About Us

Thank you for taking the time to express your interest in us.

We are a school that serves our community with ambition and success. If your boy attends our school, then he is highly likely to achieve significantly better than national boys' averages at GCSE. This is why most of our boys stay in our Ofsted Outstanding 6th form and then go onto prestigious universities and professional apprenticeships. I am proud to say that our boys live up to our vision of "success for everyone".

The success of our students is not just measured in their results but in how we help develop them into fine young gentlemen who take active roles in their communities. Our boys represent us well in the community: to be a 'Poly boy' is a badge of honour.  I am delighted that our boys represent us so well at Greenwich's Young Person Council, in sporting fixtures, in charitable work and work experience.

Our curriculum is ambitious, too, and is designed to challenge our boys' growing minds. We have a wide ranges of STEM, arts and applied subjects at all key stages to ensure that our students receive a broad curriculum experience. This is supplemented by an ever-increasing range of extra-curricular activities, ranging from sports and the arts, to chess, robotics and debating clubs. Beyond the school, we enrich our students with diverse experiences, including various trips in and outside of London as well as foreign visits.

We have a comprehensive intake and seek to cater to all needs: our learning support and English as an additional language departments work closely with individual boys to ensure that they are supported throughout their journey at the Poly. Our teaching is child-centred, offering support and challenge as required to ensure that all our students achieve the grades they need to pursue the courses and careers they aspire to with confidence. Our curriculum is designed so that students can make interconnections between the various subject disciplines, hence stimulating a culture of curiosity and questioning so that all our boys leave us as well-rounded, caring members of the community, ready to navigate the adult world safely, critically and knowledgeably.

I must give a shout-out to the highly-qualified teachers we have, who work tirelessly to help our students become highly-qualified themselves. We are lucky to have subject-specialists in every department, many of whom have masters and doctorates, meaning that we can tailor lessons to develop scholarly skills.

To support your son through their secondary education, we have firm foundations in exemplary pastoral care and expert teaching. Safeguarding our students is the absolute priority that informs the behaviours we demonstrate in the staff and student bodies. Our pastoral care and personal development programme are child-centred, empathetic to individual children’s needs, recognising their challenges and assisting with overcoming them. We care; we listen; we understand context and we actively build meaningful relationships with every child. I genuinely believe that the relationships we foster with our boys is our unique feature and one that is felt distinctly upon visiting our school.

Ofsted consistently rate us as a Good school and a summary reading of our most recent report will confirm much of the above. However, a visit will enable you to see not just what makes us Good but what makes us special.

I am confident that you will have made the right choice for your son by privileging us with his care, education and personal development so welcome to the Poly family.
