Holocaust Memorial Day - 27 January

Holocaust Memorial Day is marked each year on 27 January, the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, the largest Nazi death camp. The day encourages remembrance in a world scarred by genocide.

We remember the millions of lives taken during the Holocaust under Nazi persecution and in subsequent genocides in Cambodia, Bosnia, Rwanda and Darfur, as well as those people who survived these horrific events.

Holocaust Memorial Day is for everyone. Each year across the UK, thousands of people come together to learn more about the past and take action to create a safer future.

People are encouraged to take part in the national initiative to 'Light the Dark'. Join people across the country to place a light in your window on 27th January at 4pm.

Take a look at the display that our librarian Ms Griffiths has put together in our school library to mark the date with lots of books for students to read to learn more about the Holocaust.
