  • Year 8 students rescue dog

    Published 21/04/23

On Tuesday 28th March, whilst playing football after school, six of our Year 8 students came across a small dog that was shivering and looked injured near the bus stop by Waterfield Close. These students went out of their way to help this dog that appeared to be lost. Our students contacted the number on the dog’s collar and were able to trace the owner and address registered to the dog.  The students put their heads together and came up with the brilliant idea of connecting all their school lanyards to create a leash for the dog and walked it back to our reception where they enlisted the help of our receptionist Mrs Hawgood. These students waited for quite some time to ensure the dog was safe. One of our current parents at the school recognised the address linked with the registered dog and walked with some of the students to reunite the dog with its owner.

‘The owner gave me a big hug. I had a big smile on my face’ – Tobi

‘My mum told me ‘Thanks for making me so proud’’ – Daniel

This is a wonderful example of how caring our students are and shows that the Trust's vision of Care and Unity is shared by all, staff and students alike.  The boys were incredibly resourceful to ensure that this dog was looked after and returned to its owner. A huge well done to Elnathan, Tobi, Albert, Mosopeoluwa, Osagioduwa and Daniel.

Mrs Hawgood gathered these students together and gave them some chocolate to reward them for their outstanding behaviour and community spirit.

The CEO of the Trust, Mr Tim Plumb said, I could not be prouder of these students and the care that they have shown for our local community.

  • Message to parents/carers - Tariff changes April 2023

    Published 04/04/23

    Dear Parent/Carer,

As you will be aware there have been significant prices increases in many food items over the last 12 months with some significant increases in many items.

As a result, our catering company, Wilson Jones, have been forced to make some changes to the tariff. In order to minimise the impact on our families they have decided to expand price points, instead of applying a flat rate increase across the board.  This means is that there will still be items available at the current price points and also an increased number of options at these lower price points, however, the prices of the higher premium products will be increased.

The cost of a meal deal will increase from £2.60 to £2.75; this will include the price of a free school meal. We firmly believe, and evidence has shown, that if children eat healthily this will help them to achieve both their educational and lifestyle goals.

Please be assured that we know the decision to increase prices has not been taken lightly and believe that the revised prices will still remain competitive with the prices charged in other local schools.

These changes will come in to effect with the new menu change, following the Easter break.

We would like to remind parents and carers that you may be entitled to claim for free school meals. Please contact the main school office if you would like help completing the application form.

To qualify for free school meals you must be:

    • Receiving Income Support and Child Benefit
    • or receiving income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance or income-based Employment & Support Allowance and Child Benefit
    • or receiving Child Tax Credit only with no entitlement to Working Tax Credit and with a gross annual income as assessed by the Inland Revenue of £16,190 or less (gross means before deductions for tax and national insurance) and Child Benefit
    • or receiving the guarantee element of State Pension Credit and Child Benefit
    • or being supported under Part VI of the Immigration & Asylum Act 1999

Design a Hat Competition - The Winners!

Two weeks ago, we launched our ‘Design a Hat’ competition raising awareness for Wear a Hat Day. We have been inundated with entries and Mrs Hawgood had such a tough time deciding on the winners.

The 1st prize was awarded to Benjamin in Year 7 who created an amazing blue, yellow and white graphic design with felt tip pens and fine liners. So much detail and care went into this design, it looks like it has been printed and not drawn by hand!

The 2nd prize was awarded to Dyuvan in Year 7 who actually submitted a number of fantastic entries. This design was noticed straight away as it displays all of the elements of our school badge. The attention to detail and the use of typography – brilliant.

Well done to Benjamin and Dyuvan we hope you enjoy your chocolate treats and prizes!

We also had several other designs that Mrs Hawgood felt deserved prizes. Thank you and well done to everyone who took the time to submit an entry.

It was so lovely being able to view all these hat entry designs as they were handed in, we are so lucky to have such creative and talented students within our school.

Our Designated Specialist Provision students also took part in the competition, and we were able to award everyone a prize for submitting an entry. Mrs Hawgood had another tough decision to make choosing a winner. 1st place prize was awarded to Braydon in Year 7.  His design was so neat, and he really thought about the use of colour this creation must have taken ages to complete. A huge well done to you Braydon, and we hope you enjoy your chocolate treat!

  • Year 10 Trip - University of Cambridge

    Published 30/03/23

On Friday 17th March 2023, we had the privilege of taking fourteen Year 10 Poly and Proud students to Cambridge University, Churchill College for The Physics Experience.

The trip consisted of a miniature tour around the college, where the students learnt more about the history of the college. The student attended a presentation about further education and studying at Cambridge University.

Students had the chance to see student halls and spoke to an Engineering Professor.

We explored the Physics Museum where were explored the multiple developments including those developed at Cambridge University.

The afternoon was particularly exciting where the students were involved in a practical experiment on optics and set up their own magnifying glasses. Students also participated in a competition on Isaac Physics and to round off the day we looked at the physics of light.

It was an enriching and inspiring experience that all students should be able to enjoy.

All students were given an Isaac Physics textbook to take home that will support them in preparation for their GCSEs. I am incredibly proud of the questions that were asked and answered by our students on the trip, they demonstrated immense maturity and interest in the activities.
