  • City, University of London - Year 10 Taster Week Experience

    Published 06/03/23

Maurice, Year 10 student was successful in securing a place at the University Taster Week at City, University of London. Maurice attended the Year 10 Psychology session from 20th-24th February 2023 and thoroughly enjoyed his experience:

'I just wanted to say that the Taster Week at City, University of London was fantastic! I took part in lots of different activities and workshops, met new friends and had fun! I learnt loads about Psychology and Criminal Psychology. I feel that I better understand what studying Psychology will be like. One of my favourite activities was completing the escape room. I feel like I may potentially pick Psychology as an A-level as it was that good! I was really pleased that I got the opportunity to attend it, and I’d most definitely go again!

Amina Rahman is the widening Participation Project Officer at City, University of London and gave some wonderful feedback about our students:

'I would also like to add the students from the school have been amazing! So engaged, well-behaved and intuitive. A special mention of Maurice, of whom has been particularly engaging, confident and supportive of peers.  It has been a pleasure hosting them both this week.'

Huge congratulations to Maurice who has fully taken advantage of this amazing opportunity and made such a wonderful impression on the staff at City, University of London. We can't wait to hear all about our other Year 10 students experiences of University Life that have secured places at the upcoming Taster Weeks - watch this space!

  • Celebrating World Book Day Today! 3/3/23

    Published 03/03/23

Today we celebrate world book day. Regardless of age, gender or interests, reading truly is one of life’s pleasures.

We kicked off the day with a fantastic assembly led by Ms Griffiths our School Librarian and Mr McCabe – PE Teacher and Literacy Co-ordinator.

Mr McCabe had organised a fantastic activity for the whole school – The Masked Reader. 14 staff members have been filmed reading a short passage from of a book, and a snap chat filter has been added to disguise the staff member. Pupils competed as a form to work out what member of staff is behind the mask. We had some great characters including Strawberry Fizz, Simply the Zest, Spud, Notorious D.O.G, Rabbit DeNiro, and Drop Shot Diva to name a few. Well done to all the form groups who correctly guessed all of our masked readers - see the winners listed below.

Ms Griffiths shared information about the £1 book token with students and how they can redeem this and get themselves a free book. So far this year, Year 7 have borrowed over 3,000 books from our school library. We also shared some information about the top reading class in year 7, out of 8 forms 7VR came in third with 327 books read, 7JD came in second with 350 books read and 7KG came in first place reading 382 books. Brilliant work Year 7, keep up the good work!

Ms Griffiths also gave out a number of certificates and book prizes to students in Year 7 who have particularly excelled in their reading and assistance in the Library:

    Best Library Helpers

    Titobiloluwa, Madalin and Joshua.

    Accelerated Reader Champions

Jason, Yusuf, Swikrit, Harley and Sasha.

    Top Library Borrowers

    Zion, Felix and Michael.

As always, our staff outdid themselves this year with their choices of costumes for the day. No longer did we have members of our associate and teaching staff but yet the BFG, The Grand High Witch, Wednesday Addams, Harry Potter, The Mad Hatter, Hagrid, Maleficent, A Playing card (Alice in Wonderland), Mrs Trunchbull and many more joined us in school today!

It should be noted that some members of staff have really thrown themselves into their chosen book character this year.

Miss Smith arrived to school today as Miss Trunchbull and made sure her presence was known in the Year 7 assembly this morning - fantastic effort!

Mrs Hawgood our wonderful receptionist arrived to school today as Maleficent - the main antagonist in Sleeping Beauty. Year 7 did not know however that Maleficent would do the splits in assembly this morning!

Thank you to all those members of staff who went the extra mile to make such a brilliant and exciting atmosphere in school today for our students and staff.

    Never stop reading!
